Housing Discrimination? We Can Help!
We recommend contacting NHLA’s Fair Housing Project if you believe you have been a victim of discrimination in housing. We may be able to represent you.
Contact HUD or HRC
If you instead want to file a complaint directly with a federal or state agency, you can contact HUD or the HRC.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
HUD is the federal agency responsible for the administration and enforcement of federal fair housing laws and policies, including the Fair Housing Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. HUD’s regional Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) is located in Boston and serves New England states, including New Hampshire. You can access more information, including details about how to file a complaint, on HUD’s FHEO website.
New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights (HRC)
The HRC is a state government department responsible for enforcement of the Law Against Discrimination, which covers discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. You can find more information, including details about how to file a complaint, on HRC’s website.
“Fair Housing Opens Doors” Pamphlets
The Fair Housing Project and the Housing Justice Project are programs of New Hampshire Legal Assistance, a statewide non-profit law firm providing civil legal services to low-income New Hampshire residents. We assist people with a variety of housing issues, including people who have experienced discrimination in housing.
